Scholastic Bowl is a quiz game that tests players on a wide variety of academic subjects. At the middle school level, we play with two competing teams, consisting of 5 participants on each team.
The game is typically played with a lockout buzzer system. The format is a toss-up question, which is an indiviual question. Players buzz in to answer the question. If the player is correct, his or her team then controls a bonus question, constituting 4 parts. During the bonus question, teammates may confer with each other.
A typical match consist of 24 questions, with 12 questions in each half. There is a two-minute break for halftime. Additionally, each team is allowed one time-out per half, usually used to confer with the coach or to substitute players in and out.
